AWL Squad Announcement and How You Can Help the Players

Starting this week is the 2024 Australian Water Polo League competition. The Australian Water Polo League Competition ("AWL") is Australia's premier domestic water polo competition and UNSW Wests fields a Women's team and a Men's team in the AWL. The Men’s team are known as the Magpies’. The Magpies have won 7 AWL Championships and recently won 3 in a row in 2019, (2020 incomplete), (2021 not held), 2022 and 2023! The Women's team, the 2018 AWL champions, are fondly known as the 'Killer Whales'.

Magpies named Australia's Fourth Best Sporting Team

A huge congratulations to the UNSW Wests Magpies who have been ranked 4th in Platinum Asset Management (Platinum) and GAIN LINE Analytics (Gain Line) analysis on Australia's (Australia and New Zealand) Best Sport Team (ABST) 2023. This is a huge honour for the team who in 2022 ranked at 13th place. The Magpies are also ranked 2nd in NSW in 2023 being beaten out by the NRL's Penrith Panthers.

UNSW Wests Announce New Women's NL Coach

As most of you will be aware by now, Tim Hamill has resigned his position as our Women’s Head Coach following his recent appointment to the position of Head Coach Australian Men’s Water Polo Team. This is a very important and challenging appointment for Tim and we wish him well and thank him for his great work with the club over the past 5 years and for the success that has come with it. He will maintain his interest and contact with the club.

UNSW WEST KILLER WHALES MAKE HISTORY

For the first time in club history, our women’s Australian Water Polo League team became National Champions. The girls overcame Sydney Uni Lions in a Grand Final thriller to take home the gold.
